    KTZ

    Monday, December 10th, 2012

Music is the passion that took Sasko Bezovski from Macedonia to London where he opened the first Kokon To Zai boutique in Soho, formerly a creative place for dj. Together with Marjan Pejoski he blended his passions for music and fashion and launched the vanguard brand KTZ characterized by colourful prints and cutting-edge shapes as well as trendy details which now has stores in Notting Hill and Paris too.

The KTZ Fall/Winter 2012 menswear collection embodies some of the main features of the brand. Experimental cuts and shapes are the fil rouge and tops are the focus. Wide overcoat and jacket almost cover the models’ legs while long shirts show underneath creating the play of “architectural layers”.

In working with shapes, KTZ has gone beyond the traditional male aesthetic, flowing into the female one. Short pleated skirts are juxtaposed to pants or even substitute them if longer. Tunics show underneath the jackets too and become a sort of toil. They are enriched with church print series and religious symbols which spread also on ties, hats and berets.

Checked motives are in the collection too also in bright colours as yellow, red and electric blue, giving this season a punk and typically British touch while golden chains and leather gloves suggest gothic inspiration.

Pushing boundaries as always, the rebel and vanguard collection is now available at 10 Corso Como.

    Sunday from my desk

I wanted to be in too many places this week!  So many events were happening, making a choice was difficult. In the end, Berlin and the opening of the new exhibition at the Helmut Newton Foundation won my heart…
But I am still dreaming to have been at the same time in Miami at Art Basel; at La Scala for the opera, and in New York at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute to see the Delphos dresses designed by Mariano Fortuny.  The Delphos dresses took their name from The Charioteer of Delphi, a bronze statue found in 1896.  Fortuny, born in Spain but a resident of Venice and the cross currents of Byzantine and Ottoman influences, designed the Delphos and the now lost art of creating these amazing pleats. Today we talk a lot about registering ideas to protect your intellectual property……Mariano Fortuny regarded this dress as an invention,  and registered it in Paris in 1909!

    Lohengrin by Richard Wagner

    Friday, December 7th, 2012

There are traditions that do not fade. Musical drama and ballet are part of our artistic traditions and their extraordinary beauty has last through centuries and is still highly admired today. Like every year, Milan celebrate today, December 7th at 5 pm, the opening of the new season of the Teatro Alla Scala. This year the opera that will be on stage is the romantic Lohengrin by Richard Wagner, inspired by the German medieval romance Parzival of the knight and poet Wolfram von Eschenbach and by the “chanson de geste” of Garin le Loherain. The Knight of the Swan, custodian of the Holy Grail, a theme that will be again part of Wagner’s works, wants to save the Duke of Brabant’s daughter Elsa, unjustly accused of having murdered her brother in order to become Duchess herself, even though the responsible for the disappearance of the child-Duke Gottfried is the dark witch Ortrud. The Knight then anonymously asks for Elsa’s hand due to his identity that must not be unveiled but the girl is too dubious and demands to know his name. He answers but is compelled to leave forever and so disappears on a flying boat pulled by a dove. Daniel Barenboim, musical director of Teatro Alla Scala and Berlin State Opera who is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his conducting debut at Tel Aviv with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, will conduct the Wagnerian opera, full of symbolic tunes, directed by Claus Guth. Some of the most internationally acclaimed musical drama singers as René Pape, Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Harteros will be on stage too. The opening of the season of the famous theatre is included into the wider event ‘Verdi e Wagner in città. Il bicentenario per Milano’ (Verdi and Wagner in the city. The bicentennial in Milan) and will be broadcasted in 23 points of the city so that that the music and the voices will echo from the stage to the squares, schools, libraries and museums of Milan. The money raised by selling the tickets will be partly donated to social projects.

    Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

Design Miami is the global fair dedicated to design culture and commerce that brings together the most eminent professionals of the market such as designers, collectors, gallerists and curators from all over the globe.

From December 5th to 9th its eight edition,

whose main sponsor is Swaroski Crystal Palace, will be open to public and will focus both on iconic and emerging design.

It will prove once again its leading role as far as 20th and 21st century design is concerned and will be the chance to find a meeting place for both patrons and creative, according to Marianne Goebl, Director of Design Miami.

The pavilion where the audience will be welcomed is ‘Drift’, an environment made of inflatable tubes created by the studio ‘Snarkitecture’, which will be enlightened from the sunlight coming from the openings above. The tortuous entrance to the fair will also provide a meeting and relaxing space in the courtyard seating installation.

As usual, this edition will offer a wide international overview with countries as Israel and Germany participating for the first time but will highly focus on American design too, while another main subject will be the inspiration by nature with glass and ceramic works by

Jason Jacques Inc., pieces by Jean Royére, Noé Duchaufour,

Ritsue Mishima, Pieke Bergmans and Sylvain Willenz will all show experimental glass pieces while the galleries Nilufar, Rossella Colombari and Antonella Villanova will display works by Italian designers such as Michelangelo Pistoletto, Gio’ Ponti, and Carlo Mollino, just to name a few, and the hand crafted jewellery by Delfina Delettrez Fendi.

The fair will also include a pop-up restaurant where the visitors can taste snacks and hot and cold dishes by chefs Michael Schwartz and Hedy Goldsmith.
