Sunday from my desk

Nothing is more emotionally fulfilling than having the opportunity
to see great art and nature.
To see creativity in its deepest sense is always like breathing fresh air.
It fills not only all the senses but also the mind and the spirit.
The sum and substance of any artistic journey must, to be truly great,
pass through nature. Two of the most beautiful elements we need for our lives. Nature and Art. Both abundant this week in Paris in the Springtime.

Sunday from my desk

“The Tarot Reader”, a photo by Irving Penn, sits not too far from me.
It is always in my office because I like to think on the fascination people
have with la fortuna and forecasting the future.
This picture was published in Vogue in 1949 when fashion, and Vogue,
were posting the forecasting trends of the new post war creativity.
Today, upcoming trends, consumer trends, trend analysis, street fashion trends,
color trends and even reports on trend reports has made fashion
forecasting a multi million dollar global business.
But the real challenge that has nothing to do with la fortuna is to create the trends;
not follow them.

SUNDAY FROM MY DESK

I love my desk: This week I really enjoyed staying in Milano and working from my desk. Not only the catching up parts, but the work that makes me really happy. Embracing this surprising quote of Einstein, “ imagination is more important than knowledge.” This seems so amazing for a man of science to think. He then explains, “For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand”. Working from my desk this week, I could travel in my mind through different times, to different places; find new dreams and make new discoveries, it was a week to imagine.

World Press Photo Opening

The opening of the World Press Photo on Saturday has been a big success,
followed on Sunday by over one thousand visitors.
SUNDAY FROM MY DESK

Whether it is a building, a piece of jewelry or food on a plate, pure
form has an unmistakable attraction, at least to me. A strong voice and
the focus of the artist, whatever the field, will express the idea in
architecture, design, fashion or music. At the end, it is all about the
shapes and forms and the hand and eye that will bring through their
designs, real beauty. I was wearing these cuffs at a concert in Paris
and everyone has asked to hold and touch them. Today they sit as
sculpture on the desk – to wear or not.
